Shopping In Kuching
The most visited place for souvenir shopping would be The Main Bazaar. Its situated right opposite of the Kuching Waterfront nearby to the Sarawak Tourism Complex. The Main Bazaar is one of Kuching's oldest streets dated back to 1864. The place is also known as the 'antique arcade' not because of the old fashion 2 storey shop-houses but it’s a fact that a large collection of antiques and handicrafts are found there. The Main Bazaar is an example of the Chinese shop house architecture, many of them occupied by the same chinese families for generations. The place is surely a must go for tourist if they want to hunt for local souvenirs. Lots of items to choose from. Tourist is always seen buying large native handicrafts such as wooden crafted native shield and jewellery. Do make a bargain when you are interested in an item.
Kuching Cuisine
Eating out is one of the great pleasures and fun things in Kuching. The varieties are overwhelming, and the prices are incredible. It’s quite interesting, really. It’s like a mix of a McDonalds, a KFC, and local Malaysian food all in one. The menu ranges from burgers to Malaysian nasi lemak to Italian, claypot soups, and fried chicken. There are many items that you wouldn’t really consider "fast food" on the menu. The place looks like a typical fast-food joint, though. It’s obviously been inspired by more than one American burger joint. The food overall is pretty decent; one big surprise was mashed potatoes and gravy.
