Guilin cuisine is a combination of Cantonese and Hunanese dishes. It is chacterized by its sweetness and delicate use of spice and chili. Stir-firing and steaming are the most common cooking methods of Guilin Cuisine. Lipu Taro Looped Meea is a famous traditional dish of Guilin. Guilin cuisine is known for its snacks and the use of spices, especially chili. The famous Guilin chili sauce, Guìlín làjiaojiàng used widely in cooking by locals,is made of fresh chili, garlic, and fermented soybeans, and is considered one of the city's ThreeTreasures.The other two of the Three Treasures are Guilin Sanhua Jiu ( a variety of rice baijiu, or liquor distilled from rice; and Guilin pickled tofu. |

The best time to visit Guilin is between April and October. During this time, the area is at its most green. The most important thing to know about Guilin (and Yangshuo) weather is that it can get very hot, humid, and it rains a lot! The average temperature for the year is 19.3 centigrade with a July average temperature of 28.3 degrees. The average rainfall for the year is 192.6 cm per month. Note that climbing peaks around Guilin and Yangshuo can get dangerous during or after a downpour. |
